Grassroots Lifesaving Outreach (LESGO) is a dedicated, impartial, and independent Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) established to promote life in underserved communities. Our mission is to empower communities to protect lives and their environment, ensuring safe habitation through participatory methods.

Since our incorporation in 2011 by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), we have partnered with government agencies to strengthen humanitarian law and honor the dignity of mankind. At LESGO, we believe that life is worth living and living well. We are currently recruiting a skilled Human Resource Assistant to join our team in Madagali/Yola South, Adamawa.

Job Description

We are seeking a proficient HR Assistant to support our HR Officer in executing various HR duties. The ideal candidate will aid in developing policies, managing procedures, and handling administrative tasks, contributing to making LESGO a better place to work. The goal is to provide excellent support to employees and managers, develop and implement HR initiatives and systems, manage staff welfare, and provide counseling on policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Internal and External Inquiries: Handle all HR-related inquiries or requests.
  • Records Management: Maintain digital and electronic records of employees.
  • Vendor and Administrator Liaison: Serve as the point of contact with vendors and administrators.
  • Recruitment Support: Assist in identifying candidates, performing reference checks, and issuing employment contracts.
  • Calendar Management: Maintain calendars for the HR management team.
  • Compensation Documentation: Oversee the completion of compensation and benefit documentation.
  • Performance Management: Assist with performance management procedures.
  • Meeting Coordination: Schedule meetings, interviews, HR events, and maintain agendas.
  • Training Coordination: Organize training sessions and seminars.
  • Staff Orientation: Perform orientations and update records of new staff.
  • Reporting: Produce and submit reports on general HR activity.
  • Payroll Processing: Process payroll and resolve any payroll errors.
  • Termination Processes: Complete termination paperwork and conduct exit interviews.
  • Trend Awareness: Stay updated with the latest HR trends and best practices.

Requirements at Grassroots Lifesaving Outreach

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business, Communication, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience as an HR Assistant.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with labor law and employment equity regulations.
  • Skills:
    • Effective HR administration and people management skills.
    • Exposure to payroll practices.
    • Full understanding of HR functions and best practices.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proficiency with email, MS Office, and related business and communication tools.
    • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
    • Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Personal Qualities: Works well under pressure and meets tight deadlines.

Travel Requirements

The successful candidate must be willing to travel to field locations in Northeast Nigeria based on program needs. This may involve staying and working in stressful environments with basic living conditions, strictly following security protocols, and working long and irregular hours.
