Who We Are

EFI was formed through the merger of two French NGOs: Première Urgence and Aide Médicale Internationale. Emergency First International (EFI) is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) that is non-profit, apolitical, and secular. EFI assists civilian victims who have been marginalized or excluded due to the effects of natural disasters, wars, and economic collapse situations. Our vocation is to defend the fundamental human rights as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948.

Our goal is to provide a comprehensive response to all the basic needs of populations affected by humanitarian crises, helping them regain independence and dignity. Our mission is to assist populations affected by humanitarian crises by empowering them to regain control of their destiny.

Our Impact

Currently, our projects are conducted in 22 countries by 2,650 national staff, 145 expatriates, and 63 employees at our headquarters. We strive to help populations in need without creating dependency, fostering their ability to shape their own future.

Job Responsibilities at Premiere Urgence Internationale

Protection Coordinator

As Protection Coordinator, you will be responsible for the following key tasks:

  1. Protection Strategy Development and Implementation: Develop and implement the mission’s operational Protection strategy, ensuring that it aligns with PUI’s overall objectives and humanitarian principles.
  2. Protection Program Quality: Ensure the quality of current and future Protection programs throughout the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation phases.
  3. Capacity Building: Build the capacity of the mission’s Protection department, providing technical support to project teams and Protection Project Managers in a functional relationship.
  4. Representation: Represent PUI to authorities, humanitarian actors, and donors for the Protection sector, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  5. Technical Support: Provide technical support to other technical coordinators and the MEAL department to ensure that protection mainstreaming principles are integrated into all PUI interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

As part of your role, you will be accountable for the following:

Context Analysis / Strategy Development:

  • Participate in developing the operational Protection strategy and contribute to designing new relevant Protection interventions based on identified needs in the country.
  • Monitor Protection activities, analyze their effectiveness, strengths, and weaknesses in coordination with the Protection team.

Program Quality:

  • Provide technical support to program teams, especially Protection Programme Managers, ensuring the quality and effectiveness of Protection programs.

Representation / Coordination:

  • Represent PUI externally in the Protection sector to partners, donors, national authorities, and local actors.
  • Attend and contribute to Protection Cluster/Protection sector coordination group meetings for effective information sharing within the sector.

Human Resources / Training:

  • Offer technical support to project teams, particularly the Protection team, and assist in recruiting technical staff for Protection.
  • Supervise Protection training content and activity quality based on identified needs.

Logistics and Administration:

  • Ensure compliance with logistic and administrative procedures by the Protection teams under your supervision and keep relevant departments informed.

Security:

  • Uphold security compliance on the mission and promptly share security-related information with your line manager and/or the mission’s security manager.

Challenges Ahead

Key Challenges

  1. Funding Securing: Secure sufficient funding to meet the mission strategy’s ambitions. This includes actively monitoring funding opportunities and developing proposals for funding.
  2. Project Monitoring: Implement close and regular monitoring of projects in deep field locations with limited access.
  3. Protection Mainstreaming: Support other Technical Coordinators to ensure Protection aspects are mainstreamed at all stages of project implementation.

Requirements for Success

Education

  • Master’s degree in humanitarian project management, business school, political sciences, social sciences, law, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years in protection program management or a similar position.
  • Experience in protection mainstreaming and protection monitoring.
  • Experience in environments with protection threats.
  • Strong understanding of global protection principles and standards, and relevant bodies of international law.
  • Previous experience with Première Urgence Internationale is an asset.

Job Summary

The Nurse will improve the health of the targeted population by providing quality curative and preventive health care. Responsibilities include triaging patients, ensuring smooth patient flow, providing clinical care, assisting with referrals, and offering health education and hygiene promotion. The role may require assisting Health staff in other capacities as needed. Essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities
